Abandon and Claim

Trusting what God wants for us over what we want from people and life.

This message helps us see how God wants us to focus on the ‘for’ and not the ‘from’ and how this shift of focus allows Him to heal wounds that are holding us back.

We’re taught to trust God for everything, so why do we get frustrated when life doesn’t go our way and people let us down?

Sometimes we get in the habit of going to God with our ‘grocery list’ of needs and expectations and then rush off to wait for Him to deliver our order.

God’s calling us to listen first and let Him speak His desires into us

This presentation is about shifting our focus to what God has for us vs what we want from Him or from the people in our lives. In this we learn to see people and circumstances with His eyes and stop seeing things through our own flawed vision.

Key Scripture References

~ Romans 8:28

How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” Otherwise you are boasting about your own pretentious plans, and all such boasting is evil.
~ James 4:14-16

Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children.
~Ephesians 5:1

Jesus declared, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
~ Matthew 22:37-39

For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope and overflow with confidence in His promises.
~ Romans 15:4 AMP

He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly.
~ 1 Peter 2:23

But to those of you who will listen, I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone takes your cloak, do not withhold your tunic as well. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what is yours, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you.
~ Luke 6:27-31

I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you too are to love one another. By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you have love and unselfish concern for one another.
~ John 13:34-35 AMP

But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them, expecting nothing in return. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.'
~ Luke 6:35-36
