“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.” — John 1:14
The story of God’s presence has always been a story of nearness.
From the wilderness to the manger — from tents and temples to hearts and homes — God has always been moving closer.
Here’s a brief scriptural documentation of tabernacle to temple to today.
1. God Dwelling in the Tabernacle
Exodus 25:8–9 Then have them make a sanctuary for Me, and I will dwell among them.
Exodus 40:34–35 The cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.
➡️ God’s glory rested among His people in a temporary dwelling — a visible reminder that He desired relationship, not distance.
2. God Dwelling in the Temple
1 Kings 8:10–11 The priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled His temple.”
2 Chronicles 7:1–3 Fire came down from heaven… and the glory of the Lord filled the temple.
➡️ God’s presence permanently settled among His people — but access was still limited by walls, curtains, and sacrifice.
3. God Dwelling in Jesus — The Living Tabernacle
John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made His dwelling (tabernacled) among us.
➡️ Jesus became divinity wrapped in humanity.
4. God Dwelling in Us — His Living Temples
1 Corinthians 6:19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you?
2 Timothy 1:14 By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you.
➡️ Now, we are the living temples — carriers of His presence in our homes, workplaces, and daily lives.
5. The Final Fulfillment — God Dwelling with His People Forever
Revelation 21:3 Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and He will dwell with them.
➡️ One day, the dwelling of God will be complete — no separation, no distance, no curtain, no chaos. Just perfect communion.
