Fresh Starts & Unshakable Love

[Don’t miss the free cheat sheets and journaling guides at the end!]

Setting the ‘new’ involves assessing the past. New resolutions usually mean we’re acknowledging areas where we weren’t satisfied or felt we fell short in the ‘old’. If we’re not careful, this can lead to self-doubt. It may also lead to comparisons, whether comparing ourselves to others or to our own perceived expectations.

But here’s the good news: God’s got you! When self-doubt and comparison begin to press in, let His powerful words reign in your heart and mindset.

Self-Doubt and Comparison

Consider Ephesians 1:3:

“All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.”

Ephesians 1:3 NLT

At a glance, this verse might be interpreted as, “God has provided me with all my needs; I am blessed.” But a deeper look into the original Greek reveals something even more profound.

In this verse, there are three variations of the word ‘blessing’:

  1. “Praise God the Father…” (‘eulogētos’) – This word is used exclusively for God. It signifies that He alone is worthy to receive our blessing of praise.
  2. “Who has blessed us…” (‘eulogēo’) – This form means to “speak well of” and refers to God blessing His people by speaking good things over them.
  3. “With every spiritual blessing…” (‘eulogia’) – This word implies praise, adulation, bountiful gifts, and even flattering speech.

In both 2 and 3, the Greek words tell us God speaks His love and adoration over you. He speaks well of you with words of praise and affirmation. When self-doubt and comparison knock on your door, picture your Father pointing to you from the heavenly realms, saying,

“See [insert your name]? That’s my child. I’m so proud of her/him. I love her/him so much.”

He Doesn’t Tire of Me

If you’re like me, you might sometimes feel as though God grows weary of your repeated “try again” resolutions. Maybe you wonder if He tires of walking with you through the same struggles, over and over again. Let’s settle that doubt once and for all: He doesn’t.

Isaiah 40:28 reminds us:

“Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding.”

Isaiah 40:28 NLT

The Passion Translation beautifully emphasizes this truth:

“Don’t you know? Haven’t you been listening? Yahweh is the one and only everlasting God, the Creator of all you can see and imagine! He never gets weary or worn out. His intelligence is unlimited; he is never puzzled over what to do!”

Isaiah 40:28 TPT

God never tires of hearing from you. He never grows weary of your repeated resolutions. He already knows your heart and your struggles. You’re not surprising Him with your “start again” moments. In fact, He’s waiting eagerly for you to come to Him, ready to walk with you once more.

He Never Gets Weary of Speaking Well of Me

So as you sit with Him and talk about your ‘new’ for this year, reflect on the ‘old’. Remember this: You can rebuke the lies that whisper you’re “too much.” You can also dismiss thoughts that you should just give up. Every day is a new opportunity to wake up and hear Him say:

“See [insert your name]? She’s/He’s my child. I never grow weary of her/him. I love her/him so much.”
